AboutUs
Built from our lived experiences
Ezekiel Obieta (He/Him)
CEO + Co-Founder
Ezekiel is a product builder, social worker, and advocate. He has spent 10 years of his career designing healthcare and social products for communities that most tech ignores, including people with autism, trans patients, and youth in transitional housing. As a queer, trans immigrant, every product he's built has been personal. At Avela, Plume, Arise, and Zerigo, he created tools that healed others while helping him find healing within himself. He founded Maya Migrate to bring that same commitment to immigrants who deserve dignified, accessible support.
Carolina Román (She/Her)
CTO + Co-Founder
Carolina is a Chilean-born software developer, product leader, and immigrant with over 20 years of experience building technology that puts people first. A physicist by training, she thrives on turning hard problems into solutions that matter. Having lived in Chile, Spain, the U.S., and Japan, she knows firsthand how fragmented and unforgiving immigration systems can be. At Maya, she's building the tools she wishes she'd had: ones that treat immigration as a process you can navigate, not a lottery you plead your way through. In her free time, Carolina enjoys the company of her cat Curu and a growing collection of succulents.
Giva Wilkerson (She/Her)
Chief Community Officer
Giva Ann Wilkerson is a writer, speaker, educator, advocate and yoga teacher of Jamaican and Black American descent. She is a graduate of both the University of Pittsburgh and Indiana University-Bloomington, with graduate degrees in African American & African Diaspora Studies and Public Administration. To date, Giva has been teaching and writing on self-discovery, personal development and healing for over 15 years. In addition to her academic credits, she is a trained sexual assault counselor, trauma-informed care provider and eating disorder recovery coach. She has implemented over 50 personal development programs and workshops, been quoted in Refinery 29 magazine, and made appearances on several national programs, including Good Morning America. Her loves include South African cinema, all things Brooklyn and spending time with her daughter.
Chenxi Liu (He/Him)
Product Designer
Chenxi spent most of his life as a biologist and pivoted to UX design in 2025 to pursue his passion for design. As a queer Asian immigrant who recently got his green card and went through tremendous hardship finding the right resource, he empathizes deeply with immigrants' journeys. Joining Maya has allowed him to design human-centered tools for many people who are living the same experience. He hopes Maya's platform will make you feel like you are not alone on this journey. When he is not designing, he enjoys photography, nature, video games, and food.
